The San Franciscan Treat

Posted in Daddy B, Momma B | 3 Comments »

Eric mentioned earlier that I was joining him for his business trip in San Francisco – and what a treat it has been! I arrived on Wednesday via Oakland. Many of you know that I am a fairly routine person so it was thrilling (in a good way) to be in discovery mode. I took the B.A.R.T for the first time and met Eric at Montgomery Street. Our hotel happens to be right next to the TransAmerica tower and bordering both the Financial District and Chinatown.

Being here brings back a lot of memories since Eric and I, eight years and a couple of months ago, spent our honeymoon here. From our window I can see the park where Eric played Chinese Chess with the locals and the restaurant we ate at in Chinatown.

I spent almost two hours sitting at the window – Eric caught me deep in thought (or listening to This American Life):

I woke up at 7:00am and got to watch the Financial world get moving. So many people – so many directions. Only made me wish I could ask each person to stop and tell me about themselves for a minute!

What a treat to be here and to be celebrating Eric’s job. Eight years ago I would never have guessed where our road would take us or that we’d be back here in a situation like this.

We are about to head out to explore the city. Tomorrow Eric works 1/2 day and then we get the rest of the day, Saturday and part of Sunday to be un-obvious tourists!!

Before I go I just wanted to publicly thank you all for the birthday wishes, treats, calls, emails, texts, Facebook entires, etc that I received. What a way to feel loved. Thank you!

More posts to come…maybe when we get home though!

A Stitch in Time – (or give me a shot)

It all started with a reward for the boys for good behavior. Nearby there is a park that the boys have affectionately named the “Speaker Park”. We haven’t been in a while, and the boys asked to go there if they ate their dinner. They ate really well and cleaned up all of their toys so we packed up and headed to the “Speaker Park”

We couldn’t have been there longer than 5 minutes when Walker began to cry. As I went to comfort him I found him bleeding from his mouth. So we cut the park outing short and arranged a meeting place so will could go with Mommy B while Walker and I headed off to the urgent care clinic to have them take a look at it.

Walker was a brave soul and in a pretty good attitude despite it all. When we got to the clinic he was in relatively good humor. Earlier in the week he and Will had been out at the doctor and he was disappointed that during the visit he did not get a shot. I think he figures any trip to the doctor includes a shot because in one of his favorite books, Couderoy goes to the Doctor, Courderoy gets a shot. He reads that book almost every night. So as we got settled in the waiting room he asked me if he would get a shot…

Once we got in the Doctor’s office a very brief exam by the doctor led to the diagnosis that Walker needed some stitches. The doctor left indicating that he was going to order the stitches and be back to put them in quickly to have us out as soon as possible. A few minutes later the Nurse prepped the room which included a shot. Walker’s eyes lit up and he asked if the shot was for him. I told him that I thought so and you would have thought it was Christmas morning by his reaction.

Walker ended up with 12 shots and 5 stitches. Amazingly he didn’t cry through the whole ordeal. In fact for the whole night he only cried when he hurt himself initially. When we got home walker was a star. Everyone wanted to see him and his stitches and he was more than willing to oblige. He enjoyed the attention for about a half hour and then we got ready for bed Walker got some extra TLC from Mommy B as she tucked him in. So I tucked in Will. I told how proud I was of him because he had been such a good sport about the whole situation to which he responded: “Next time walker hurts himself we should come right home and I will fix him with my doctor tools OK?”

All aboard…!

The boys and I took a trip to Union Station it was our first time to the famed Station and we had a blast. We packed a lunch and ate it in the court yard with the Koi Fish Fountain/Pond. Then we explored every nook and crannie of the station. Below are pictures I took with my blackberry (I forgot to grab our camera on the way out).

Enjoy!
